Shadow Bay chapter 8 is up

Shadow Bay, the noir painted-novel collaboration with writer Donald J. Rothschild, has just been updated with chapter 8 today. Here is a picture:

There are 33 images in the chapter, which is why it took quite a long time to finish this one. This is also the end of part 1 of the book, so we're going to take some time off & step up our search for a publisher or similar interested party. We're also toying with the idea of coming up with a "soundtrack", for want of a better word, for this. Stay tuned.

Shadow Bay update

I'm still working on chapter 8. There are 33 drawings in it at the moment. The rough sketches are basically done, I just have to paint them in with acrylic gray tones. Could take a while...

As you can see, things are getting interesting...

I've started chapter 8

This morning I began the rough drawings for chapter 8 of Shadow Bay. There are going to be quite a lot (around 30, I think), so this will take a while.

Above, we see our main protagonists, Jo Landy & David Fisher taking in a late fall football game, before going their separate ways for Thanksgiving dinner. The chapter features family, friends, turkey, wine, with a bonus helping of violence & sex. You know, the usual...

Woman Seated in a Rocky Landscape

I was just up in the loft of my studio looking through things, and I came upon this little piece of cardboard. So, I did a small ink drawing on it:

Status Update

It currently seems as if I'm not doing much. In fact, I'm:

1. About to start work on chapter 8 of Shadow Bay. This is an important chapter in the piece, as it marks the end of part 1, & is a major dramatic episode. This chapter is going to be rather image-heavy, so I may not update this blog for a week or so...

2. I've been spending a good amount of time on my other blog, which is mostly dedicated to lesser-known older works from my archives. If you check in over there, you might see some interesting pieces that have not been seen before, or not often, anyhow.

Thank you. That is all for now.

Paradise Lost

Just your basic fallen angel (that would be Lucifer) surveying his domain (that would be Hell)...inspired by Milton, of course. Maybe someday I'll do more images for Paradise Lost...I know Gustave Doré already covered that, but I'm sure there's room for another version...

The Graveyard of All Wars

Another drawing from 2003, but I thought I'd post it here, rather than my other blog which is more dedicated to artwork from my archives, just to mix things up a bit.

The Graveyard of All Wars, 2003, brush & ink on paper, 24" x 19".

Done in 2003, which is around the time I was starting to work on the War Room pieces.

The Forest

Another little working sketch that might turn into something or stay as it is:

Sketch of a Standing Figure

This is pretty much just a little doodle I did to put here:

Fish & Smoke Rings

I guess this means that chapter 7, the latest instalment of Shadow Bay (noir graphical novel blog collaboration with Donald J. Rothschild) is just about ready...

I'll update this post when the chapter is live...stay tuned...OK, it's live so please click here.

A Rainy Day in Shadow Bay

It's a holiday weekend here in the USA (Columbus Day Weekend), so it's hard to focus on getting things done — but Shadow Bay chapter 7 is taking shape. It should be up in a couple of days...

The Honey Eater

This was a small brush & ink drawing that I did a while ago that I've just photographed:

The Honey Eater, 2009, brush & ink on paper, 12" x 9".

I'm thinking of making either a larger drawing or pehaps a painting based on it.

Flying Fisher

That's David Fisher, the protagonist of Shadow Bay. He's not really flying, of course, it's a minds-eye kind of image. Chapter 7 of Shadow Bay is under way...

Officially represented by the Limner Gallery

Important news:

The Limner Gallery, 123 Warren Street, Hudson, NY 12534. Phone: 518-828-2343.

I'm taking this moment to announce that I'm now officially represented by the Limner Gallery in Hudson, NY. This means that collectors & other interested parties can liaise with the gallery if they so wish -- I believe that some collectors would prefer not to deal directly with the artist.

Here is a link to the Limner Gallery artists page:

And the Limner Gallery / Direct Art Magazine home page:

Finally, here is a link to my artist page.

Below are some examples of my work that have been shown in the gallery and/or magazine over the years:

The Logic of War, 2008 (as seen in the "Show of Heads" exhibit.)

Future Human, 2009 (as seen in Direct Art magazine.)

Head of Fascism, 2005 (as seen in a "Show of Heads" & the magazine.)

After spending the morning shooting old work for this & my other blog (see below & here), here is a new drawing:

Unraveling, 2009, china marker & india ink on paper, 16.5" x 12".

This started as a sketch using china marker (those pencil/crayons that will make a mark on anything; plastic, china, glass, etc.), which I finished using a brush & ink. I've left the construction lines in, as they're almost impossible to remove.

Forgotten Sentinel, 2000

Here's another excavated & resurrected drawing from 2000 to be put into the Entropy Series:

Forgotten Sentinel, 2000, brush & ink on paper, 25.5" x 19.75"

Now, I should probably make some new pieces.

Decay, 2003

Normally I'd put pieces from the archive on my other blog, but this one is different as I've decided that it, & some other pieces from around 2003, belong in the Entropy Drawings series (which you can view in its current state on MySpace here.)

Decay, 2003, brush & ink on paper, 24" x 19".

I find the drawing reminiscent of Arcimboldo (the head made up of bodies & body parts) & also Ivan le Lorraine Albright, with its theme of decay & decomposition.

Minotaurs & Golems

I've just been updating my other blog with more works from the archives. I just put up 7 Minotaur images from over the years, & 2 Golems. Worth a look if you like mythological artwork.

The Last Minotaur, 1997, oil on unstretched, synthetic canvas, 4' x 6' approx.

Chapter 6 is up

Yes, Shadow Bay chapter 6 is now live. The latest installment of my noir collaboration with writer Donald J. Rothschild. You can see it here.

Chapter 6 is on the way...

My kids keep giving me their viruses, apparently. I thought I was all better but got whacked the other day by a headache/fever thing my daughter seems to have given me. However, I am back working again on Shadow Bay, chapter 6...coming soon...
