Little Creature

This is s little painting I started quite a while ago:

Little Creature, 2010, acrylic on board, 6" x 4".

Nocturnal

Small experimental painting, done under electric lights, so it was difficult to gauge color values.

Nocturnal, 2010, acrylic on board, 10" x 8".

Man's Head Over Palimpsest

This one has been through many changes...in the end I obliterated the original versions of a woman's head with acrylic ground & started over.

Man's Head Over Palimpsest, 2010, ink (markers, pen, brush) over acrylic etc., 11" x 8.5".

The Thoughtful One

I was going to call it "The Thinker", but apparently someone else beat me to that title...

This was a drawing that I did a few weeks ago...I just tried darkening the background, & I think it improved it a lot.

The Thoughtful One, 2010, ink & acrylic on paper, 11" x 8.5".

The background dark gray tone is actually a mixture of ink & acrylic sludge.

Zeitgeist for Lowly

A friend in Chicago, the very fine artist & musician Tim Lowly, has honored me by using my painted drawing (for want of a better term) "Zeitgeist" on a poster for a concert event that he's performing in, with his Lowly Ensemble. Here's the poster with the details:

Please click the poster image for a much better view. If you're in the Chicago area on July 10, you should check out Tim's music.

The original artwork, Zeitgeist was done in 1998. Black pigment & acrylic medium on museum board, 40" x 32".

Head in Red and Black

I found a Rotring ArtPen in my studio, so I decided to try it out...the red ink was still in the barrel, but I put in a black cartridge I found...so the red lasted a while until the black took over...an interesting mistake, I thought.

Head in Red and Black, 2010, pen & ink on paper, 8.5" x 7" approx.

Unfinished Head from 2001

I was just down in the basement going through boxes of papers etc. Came across a few pieces of art from years gone by...a few were worth scanning in...this one is a pen & ink drawing of a head from 2001 that is pretty good...it's "unfinished"...I'm not sure if I ever intended to do more...

Unfinished Head, 2001, pen & ink on paper, 10" x 8".

The Spires of Atlantis

New figurative drawing:

The Spires of Atlantis, 2010, brush & ink on paper, 14" x 11".

I've always been fascinated by the Atlantis legend, but never have tackled it directly before. Apologies for the lack of photographic quality...

A Conspiracy of Souls

A drawing on a slightly larger scale...a variation on the "Tree of Souls" motif I've used before.

A Conspiracy of Souls, 2010, brush & ink on paper, 14" x 11".

Image is slightly blurry, as it's too big for the scanner...

The Siren

Just another femme fatale...

The Siren, 2010, brush & ink on paper, 11" x 8.5".

The Wanderer

A Symbolist type of drawing, with a mysterious figure...this could become a series with the wanderer in different locations...or not...

The Wanderer, 2010, brush & ink on paper, 11" x 8.5".

Memory of a Horseshoe Crab

I was just in Cape Cod, MA, with my daughter for the 5th grade Whale Watch trip. We saw several of these creatures, mostly dead, on the beaches around the cape.

Memory of a Horseshoe Crab, 2010, acrylic on paper, 11" x 8.5".

Painted from memory, so may not be an exact rendering.

Here is the verso of Shaman (below). I wasn't going to scan it in, then I felt it was actually pretty good, though I've done similar pieces before...

Ink drawing on cardboard, with white highlights in acrylic:
